Welsh Service and Museum Open House 2023

The Historical Association at the old church next to the cemetery on Main Street in Richville will have an open house with refreshments directly after the Welsh Society Service on Sunday August 27th 2023. The Welsh Service begins at 2pm. with the historical open house happening directly afterwards. Hope to see you there!

Historical Welsh Society church Service

We have not been able to meet in person for our annual Welsh Society get-together but there is still much happening behind the scenes. If you would like to get a newsletter please contact Rachel Riley at 287-2976 by phone and we can arrange a way for you to stay connected with our group!

Welcome

Established in 1804 by Salmon Rich, the village began as Rich's Settlement. Salmon Rich gave up his farm near DeKalb village to purchase the entire southwest corner of the township of DeKalb from Judge William Cooper. Salmon Rich signed a bond and mortgage to acquire 11,798 acres of land, for what’s now known as Richville. Still in the Township of DeKalb, this quaint little village sits high on a hill surrounded by North Country wilderness. Signs of a sizeable Welch community are still apparent with the historic Welch Society, originally a church built in 1859, that welcomes visitors at the south entrance of Main Street. The Richville Historian is Lila Youngs, also the library director. She can be reached at 287-1481.
